Dayot Upamecano & Ibrahima Konate
v.li.: Ibrahima Konate (RB Leipzig, 6), Reinhold Yabo (Salzburg, 7), Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig, 5); Aktion, action

Dayot Upamecano has been heavily linked with a move out of RB Leipzig this summer since teams like Arsenal and Bayern Munich interested in signing.

The 21-year-old has been one of the best central defenders in the Bundesliga this season featuring in 21 league matches so far but Leipzig run are a big risk of losing him at the end of this campaign.

As per reports, the player has a release clause of around €60 million which has caught the attention of a number of big clubs who are ready to pounce on him. But as things stand, the player is not too keen to force an exit this summer. Dayot Upamecano seems to be really happy with life at Leipzig and has no intentions of joining a new club for the upcoming season.

This will be a major setback for not only Arsenal but also for Bayern Munich who are looking to bring in a long-term replacement for the ageing Jerome Boateng.

The Gunners have been really poor in their defensive duties this campaign and Arteta badly needs a new central defender and Dayot Upamecano would have been the perfect upgrade to the likes of Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi.

Right now, Arteta has a host of central defenders at his disposal right now, but none of them are even close to the standard of Upamecano.

While the player does not want to move out but some experts believe Leipzig might look to sell him off anyway since he’s about to enter the final year of his contract.

If Leipzig cannot find a buyer for him then they will either have to convince the player to agree on a new deal or look for a buyer at the end of this season. And if the latter is the case, then it should be Bayern Munich and not Arsenal who will remain the favourites to sign him.

Right now Arsenal are nowhere close to playing in the Champions League next season and if the defender is eager to remain in the top division next season then he will most certainly choose a transfer to the Allianz Arena.

But as of now if the player’s claims are true then both Bayern and Arsenal need to shift their focus to a new target pretty quickly.
