West Ham United are currently struggling to keep youngster Declan Rice at the club as the player has rejected a new contract – as per reports.
The 19-year-old came up the ranks at the West Ham United academy and he broke into the first team set up last season when he ended up making 31 appearances for the club.
And this season too the midfielder is proving his worth as he came up with a superb display as Pellegrini’s side held Chelsea to a goalless draw.
While the youngster’s performances on the pitch have been superb but Declan Rice’s new West Ham contract is giving a number of fans sleepless nights.
Under the terms of the new contract, Rice earns just £3,000-a-week but the club are ready to offer him a new deal.
So why the representatives rejected Declan Rice’s new West Ham contract?
Well, for starters the London outfit are ready to pay the midfielder £15,000-a-week under the terms of the new deal which in today’s day and age is next to nothing.
And talking about Declan Rice’s new West Ham contract, pundit Danny Higginbotham said on Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast:
“You have to put it in perspective – yes 15k-a-week is a lot of money, but it’s not in football and not in the Premier League.
“A lot of other clubs would be willing to double that – that’s the problem for West Ham.
“West Ham should have started contract negotiations a while ago because the player holds all the cards now.
“He’ll be going into the last 12 months of his contract in the summer and if you’ve got a young player who you believe in, you just don’t do that.
“You shouldn’t really do that with any player – if you allow a player to go into the last two years of his contract, they hold all the cards and it becomes a big issue.
“That’s West Ham problem for allowing that to happen with Declan Rice.”
The fans are already unhappy with the fact that their team has made such an awful start to the new season and if the management fails to resolves Declan Rice’s new West Ham contact then the London outfit should brace themselves for a huge backlash.
