Liverpool are currently second on the Premier League table – one point behind Manchester City and with just two games left to play, everyone believes that Pep Guardiola’s men will retain the title.

The Anfield outfit have so far lost just a single game in the league this season which is a phenomenal record but still they find themselves on the back foot.

And speaking to the Premier League this week, former Man United midfielder Paul Scholes has revealed the exact moment when the Reds fell behind in the title challenge.

According to Scholes, Liverpool’s draw vs Manchester United in February was the breaking point.

“When you look back, Liverpool’s biggest mistake was not beating United at Old Trafford, when you see how many players United had missing,” the United legend told the Premier League.

“I think they got three injuries [in that match]. Jesse Lingard came on and pulled his hamstring.

“Liverpool were really poor that day. You saw the difference the other night when City came to Old Trafford and were dominant and looked a really top team.

“Liverpool could have lost it at Old Trafford.”

That game vs Manchester United ended 0-0 and it was one of the weirdest games we had seen in a really long time.

Man United lost the likes of Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard to injuries very early on during the match and Liverpool themselves suffered an injury blow.

Roberto Firmino picked up a knock and had to be taken off right on the half-hour mark.

But still, Jurgen Klopp’s side had the firepower to get past Man United during that game but sadly though the away team failed to capitalise.

That stalemate vs the Red Devils was one of Liverpool’s seven draws this season and these unnecessary losses of points look to have really helped Man City in the race to the Premier League title.
