Paul Pogba has missed most of the 2019-20 season with an ankle injury, playing just six games for Manchester United so far.

But the midfielder did return back to training and there had been reports that he could make a comeback against Colchester in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Now though, the Man United manager has revealed that Paul Pogba has been hit by illness meaning he will need a few more days in order to be fully fit and available for selection.

“He’s been off for two or three days, three days probably, so that’s not beneficial. That’s probably set him back quite a bit,” the Norwegian boss said.

“As I’ve said so many times, Paul’s a top, top player that we want to see playing his best football at Man United.

“We just need to get him fit and match fit. It might be half an hour, 45, 60, 90 — who knows, the first game. We’re working hard to get him back but now he’s ill.

“We showed that by the team we put out against Chelsea (in the previous round), that we take this seriously. Even though we were in a difficult spell in the league it was still important for us to create that momentum and belief in the players.”

Paul Pogba’s last appearance for Man United came against Arsenal during the last weekend of September and since then, he’s been out with the ankle injury.

While Man United are expected to win the EFL Cup game vs Colchester with considerable ease but after this, games will be coming thick and fast which is why the return of Paul Pogba will be very crucial.
