Chelsea will take on Wolves at the Molineux Stadium this upcoming weekend and left-back Emerson looks to be a doubt for this fixture.

This season, the 25-year-old has moved up the pecking order having featured in each and every game for the Blues up until the international break.

But while playing for Italy against Finland this past weekend, Emerson picked up a knock following which he was withdrawn after just eight minutes on the clock and immediately there were reports that the left-back might be out for a couple of weeks.

Italy boss Roberto Mancini though was quick to come out and make it clear that the knock wasn’t anything serious and taking him off so early in the game was just a precautionary measure.

“It was nothing serious, he stopped to ensure it didn’t get any worse,” Manchini stated(as quoted by The Metro).

Emerson himself said that the injury isn’t serious and he will be fit to feature for Chelsea when the Blues take on Wolves.

Now though reports are suggesting the full-back is not a 100 per cent meaning Frank Lampard might not risk him this weekend especially with a crucial Champions League tie vs Valencia coming up.

And with Marcos Alonso waiting in the wings, we don’t think the manager will take the unnecessary risk of naming Emerson in the matchday squad.

While Alonso is no doubt a fine talent, but the Spaniard’s form has seen a dip over the past year and given that Wolves have grown a reputation of being a giant killer, Lampard will really need to brainstorm this decision.

After the Wolves and Valencia matches, the London outfit will welcome Liverpool in the league and the manager would surely want Emerson to feature in that game.

And this would mean resting the 25-year-old left-back for the next two matches.
