Emiliano Sala signed for Cardiff City from French club Nantes but the South American player never quite reached the United Kingdom.
As the striker was bound for Cardiff when his aircraft went missing off Alderney on 21 January.
The aircraft had lost contact with the radar without any distress signal and immediately the worst was feared for Emiliano Sala.
A massive search operation began to find Emiliano Sala and the missing plane but after a few days of searching the authorities chose to abandon the operations.
Now though, a fund has been created for the search to continue and many prominent names have contributed to the fund
According to the Mirror,
“The campaign for the search to continue has raised £130,000 from almost 2,000 people in just a matter of days.
“The cash appeal was launched by Sport Cover, the name of Emiliano’s agent Meissa N’Diaye’s Paris-based football agency.
“Adrien Rabiot has donated €25,000 while Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and ex-West Ham star Dimitri Payet have given funds.
“Leicester’s Demarai Gray and Corentin Tolisso have also contributed to the donation page.”
Almost all of the English clubs were seen wearing black armbands during their FA Cup tie this week but that was not the case for the Milwall vs Everton game.
Everyone thought this was a bizarre move from both the club but any controversy was quickly put to rest as BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce confirmed that it was Emiliano Sala’s family who had asked the FA to stop the clubs from wearing black armbands since the player has not been declared dead yet.
Pearce said: ‘The eagle-eyed amongst you may spot that the players are not wearing black armbands – in the earlier Cup ties today the players were wearing black armbands in respect to Emiliano Sala, the new Cardiff striker whose plane went down earlier this week.
‘But his family contacted the FA earlier today and said they didn’t want the black armbands because they didn’t want the black armbands because the player has not been confirmed as dead yet.
‘So that is why Millwall and Everton, out of respect to the family’s wishes, are not wearing those armbands.’
