Which right-back will be left out from England’s 26-man squad for the EURO?

England manager Gareth Southgate has already named his 33-man provisional squad for Euro 2020 and on Tuesday, he is going to select his final 26-man squad.

This trimming means seven players will miss out on the opportunity to make it to the Euros this season and one of the areas of dilemma will be the right full-back role.

Trent-Alexander Arnold, Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Reece James have been named in that 33-man squad but there a big chance one of them will be left out on Tuesday afternoon.

Liverpool’s Trent-Alexander Arnold was at the forefront of being selected if the tournament had happened last summer but this campaign he has seen a massive drop in form which has even forced the England boss to keep him out of the squad during the recent international break.

At the same time, players like Trippier and Reece James have done extremely well for their respective teams this season, one winning the La Liga and the other winning the Champions League with Chelsea.

A few people think Southgate should drop Alexander Arnold out of the 26-man squad but according to Tony Cascarino, leaving the Liverpool man out will be a big mistake.

“I think it would be a really harsh thing to do to not select Trent [for the final squad],” Cascarino told talkSPORT.

“He’s now an experienced pro who has been around for two or three years now at the top level. Would you really select him and then say he’s not going to make the final 26? I don’t see that.

“Obviously you can utilise him different and push him forward. I do think there is a real argument that you’ve got to use Trent in certain matches.

“If you really feel you’re going to dominate play and you’re going to get in a lot of chances to whip things in and get in forward areas, then no-one’s better than Trent in terms of delivering a ball into an area which causes mayhem.”

Reece James made a fine case for himself during the Champions League final, shutting out Raheem Sterling with the utmost ease and there’s a big chance he could be the first-choice right-back for England in the coming month.

Yes, Trent-Alexander Arnold’s form has seen a dip but in the past few months, he has worked hard to get his performances back up which is why we don’t think Southgate will risk keeping him out. He is an asset to have in attacking situations and if England have to chase a game then he will be a luxury to have.

Kyle Walker has also done superbly this season with Manchester City, winning the Premier League which is why we have a feeling that it will be Kieran Trippier who will be left out of the 26-man squad for the Euros.

Trippier has also been brilliant this season but the 30-year-old has been plying his trade in the La Liga this season, a league that is far less robust than the English Premier League.

Honestly, we don’t think the England boss will take all the right-backs to the Euros and if anybody is set to miss out then it will be the 30-year-old Kieran Trippier.
