Mason Greenwood - Man United

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has no future at the club and apart from FC Barcelona, now two Premier League clubs are interested in signing him, as per The Times.

The forward is currently out on loan at Getafe but he is scheduled to return to Manchester United in the summer. Many thought Manchester United are going to welcome him back for the 2024/25 season but instead, as per Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils will look to cash in on him in order to boost their FFP balance.

The transfer expert has said: “I already reported that Man United are prepared to cash in on Mason Greenwood and the situation hasn’t changed.

“Man United will wait for permanent transfer proposals because the priority is a sale in order to make profit for Financial Fair Play, although Getafe still hope to keep him on loan.”

Will Mason Greenwood return to the Premier League or is he going to remain in Spain?

The Man United management has made up their mind that Greenwood is not going to be a part of their squad next season and with his contract set to expire in 2025, the club will have to sell him this summer.

However, with so many clubs interested in him, United will not have to huff and puff to bag a suitable amount. FC Barcelona have a long-standing interest in the winger while Atletico Madrid have also been linked with him. Atleti have denied such rumours but as per the Spanish experts, they are definitely keeping tabs.

Mason Greenwood has done very well on his loan spell with Getafe, scoring 8 and assisting 6 goals in 29 league games for the club and so far, he has been a regular starter. He’s started 26 out of the 29 league matches he’s played and so far, he has an xG of 7.65 with a total of 85 shots.

Greenwood would love to remain in Spain with two of the big boys interested in him but now that a pair of Premier League clubs have come into the fold, the winger will want to hear their offers as well. The 22-year-old has restarted his career so he will want a permanent transfer to a big club and if either of the two EPL sides are top-six candidates then they have a serious chance of landing him.

Having said that, if one of the minnows wishes to sign him then Mason Greenwood would much rather prefer to remain in Spain. Real Madrid have also been mentioned in this transfer race a couple of times but the Los Blancos are unlikely to pursue a deal.

Manchester United want around £40-45 million for Greenwood and amongst all the known interested clubs, only Barcelona will struggle to pay this fee. Hopefully, the two unnamed English clubs can also afford the winger as well.

Barring this one season, Mason Greenwood has spent all his time in England so he would love to return to the Premier League but that is only going to happen if a top side is willing to overlook all the PR nightmare to bring him on board.
