Neil Lennon wants to sign Fraser Forster from Southampton FC on a permanent deal but with each passing day, this feat is becoming more and more impossible to achieve.

The 32-year-old spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Parkhead and Lennon is keen to hold onto him beyond the summer. But recent reports have suggested that a PL club wants to bring Fraser Forster onboard which has immediately pushed the Bhoys down the pecking order.

Many pundits think Southampton will want to sell Forster to the Premier League suitor because they will be able to get a heftier transfer fee meaning the Bhoys have no other option but to find an alternative pretty soon.

While Lennon is eyeing a couple of other Premier League keepers but as per Football Insider, Celtic could try and hold onto Craig Gordon, despite the player becoming a free agent last month.

Gordon has already rejected an offer to resign for the Bhoys due to the reduced wages in the new deal and has made it clear that he could be on his way to St Mirren next season.

He told SunSport: “With Celtic, the ball is in their court. They’ve made an offer but they know they’ll need to come back with something better.

“My contract has lapsed and I’m free to talk to anybody. That’s what I intend to do over the next few weeks.

“St Mirren have made me a good offer and other clubs have also been in touch. As things stand I haven’t closed the door on anybody.”

But now with Fraser Forster slipping way from their hands, the Celtic management might once again turn to Craig Gordon to be their No 1 next season.

The report by Football Insider claims: “Celtic are willing to offer Craig Gordon an improved deal amid doubts over re-signing Fraser Forster, Football Insider can reveal.

“A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club are ready to up their initial offer to Gordon but will not stretch as far as the £20,000-a-week deal that has just expired.”

Celtic are clearly not confident about signing Fraser Forster which is why they have gone back to Craig Gordon but what remains to be seen is if the 37-year-old does decide to rejoin the Parkhead outfit or move on to greener pastures.

Yes, Fraser Forster has started training with Celtic which has led many people to believe that he could remain at the club next season but as soon as the Saints find an ideal buyer, we are confident the keeper will be called back to England.
