Rangers FC have made their 15th signing of the summer in the form of 38-year-old defender Gareth McAuley.

McAuley played for English side West Bromwich Albion but the centre-back became a free agent at the end of the season thus ending his seven-year association with the Baggies.

And with the arrival of Gareth McAuley, Steven Gerrard has finally got what he was looking for during the whole summer transfer window.

The Light Blues have signed the likes of Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and Joe Worrall during the summer so the manager’s centre-back crisis was more or less solved.

But with the arrival of McAuley, Gerrard has finally added that much-needed experience that his defensive trio was lacking.

And speaking after his arrival at Ibrox, Gareth McAuley also resonated the same things.

Talking to Rangers TV, McAuley said: “[I hope to bring] experience, there is a young group of players here,”

“Help them with my knowledge and help develop them, also challenge them to play in the team.

“It’s a project here at the minute and I was speaking to the manager in the last week or so and that’s something I can bring to the project.”

No one really expects Gareth McAuley to play too many games for Rangers this season. But his vast experience in the Premier League will most certainly come in handy especially now that the Gers have a number of tricky fixtures in the Europa League.
