Unai Emery had suffered a major setback earlier this month when it was revealed that Rob Holding would miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

And now multiple reports are of the view that Unai Emery is planning to bring in a new centre-back during the January transfer window.

The Arsenal manager does not want to spend too heavily during the middle of the season and hence wants to bring in a player who can act as a temporary solution until the end of the season.

And Chelsea outcast Gary Cahill fits the brief perfectly.

Maurizio Sarri has made it clear that he has no use of Gary Cahill and the England international is free to leave the club in January.

Arsenal are planning to lure him in but now it seems Unai Emery is set to face stiff competition from AS Monaco.

Monaco manager Thierry Henry is also out in the market in search of a centre-back and Gary Cahill is one of his two choices.

Henry wants to add some defensive strength to his squad at the start of the new year and he feels that Gary Cahill will be perfect for the role given his vast experience.

The other player that Monaco are targetting is Arsenal man Laurent Koscielny who has just recovered from a long-term injury.

Both Gary Cahill and Koscielny have had very little game time during the season with the Chelsea man playing just seven games despite being fully fit whereas Koscielny has managed to play four games ever since returning from injury a couple of weeks ago.

Now it will be interesting to see is Unai Emery gives up Koscielny to AS Monaco and target Gary Cahill or does he keep hold of what he had and let Thierry Henry have the Chelsea man.
