Manchester United appointed Ole Solskjaer as their caretaker manager until the end of the season and his first game in charge will be against Cardiff City this weekend.

Upon his appointment, Solskjaer said: “Manchester United is in my heart and it’s brilliant to be coming back in this role.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club.”

Man United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward added: “Ole is a club legend with huge experience, both on the pitch and in coaching roles.

“His history at Manchester United means he lives and breathes the culture here and everyone at the club is delighted to have him and Mike Phelan back.

“We are confident they will unite the players and the fans as we head into the second half of the season.”

A number of Solskjaer’s former teammates congratulated the Baby Faced Assasin for his new job but perhaps the best message came from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Ole Solskjaer will always be remembered by the Bayern Munich fans as the man who broke their heart with that famous injury-time winner during the 1999 Champions League final.

And the Bavarian’s brought back those memories in order to congratulate Man United’s new boss.

In their humorous style, Bayern Munich tweeted: “Don’t take it personally ChampionsLeague, but some of your content today is bringing back traumatic memories.”

Manchester United are now on the lookout for a new manager and many believe that it will be Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino who will take charge of the club once the current season comes to an end.
