Rangers picked up their first win of the new Scottish season with a 2-0 victory over St Mirren at Ibrox on Sunday.

And this win will be a great confidence booster for the whole squad after they managed to draw their season opener against Aberdeen.

Alfredo Morelos put the Gers infront in the 14th minute after which centre-back Connor Goldson gave that all-important second goal cushion ten minutes later.

The Gers though made things tough for themselves after midfielder Ross McCrorie was sent off right after the half-hour mark.

But thankfully the Light Blues did not lose focus and made sure that they kept a clean sheet.

And after the match, Steven Gerrard was all praises for his centre-back, Connor Goldson.

Talking about Connor Golsdon, Steven Gerrard said:

“He is a leader and a huge player for us,

“He has been superb on and off the pitch, ever since the day he rolled in.

“He is the reason why we are looking so solid – his communication, his organisation – and he is posting very strong performances.

“That is the reason he is vice-captain here.”

Goldson was one of Steven Gerrard’s first signings at Rangers when the centre-back arrived at Ibrox back in June from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Gers have paid close to 3.4 million euros for the services of the 25-year-old and there’s no doubt that Connor Goldson along with Nikola Katic will be the first choice defensive pair for Gerrard during the 2018-19 season.
