Liverpool and Man City are currently fighting an epic battle for the Premier League title but the Reds also have a Champions League commitment this week.
While Pep Guardiola and his team were knocked out of the UCL, Liverpool have qualified for the semi-finals and will now take on Barcelona in the two-legged tie.
The Anfield outfit travel to Camp Nou this week to take on Barcelona in the first leg of the semis but before this high-profile clash, Pep Guardiola has chosen to take a dig at Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The Man City manager has claimed that the only reason why Liverpool have been able to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League is that they were knocked out of the domestic competitions pretty early on during the season.
“When that happens in November, December, January, February that helps a lot,” said the Catalan, as per the Liverpool Echo
“That happened for Liverpool. In that period it was better for Liverpool than us.
“But to be involved in the Champions League semi-finals – you are not tired. You do not feel any pain. That is a better position to be in, to be in the semi-finals.
“The toughest months in this competition are December, January, February when they had two weeks in training camps and we had to be here playing every three days.
“That is a big advantage for the opponent.”
Pep Guardiola and his team had the chance of winning the famed quadruple this season having already won the League Cup. But unfortunately, they were knocked out of the UCL by Spurs.
While Liverpool have the chance of playing in two successive Champions League finals, Man City, on the other hand, have the chance of doing a domestic treble.
