Manchester City were humbled by Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League season opener and according to talkSPORT host Jamie O’Hara, City need to bring Harry Kane onboard if they want to defend their title.

Harry Kane did not feature in the matchday squad on Sunday but despite that Spurs won the match 1-0 as Manchester City looked completely toothless in the final third.

Players like Grealish, Sterling and Mahrez did create a few chances but Ferran Torres and then Gabriel Jesus were completely lack-lustre upfront.

O’Hara has claimed that Man City will not be able to win the league without a world-class No 9 which is why they need to go all out and sign Harry Kane.

He told talkSPORT: “They have to (get him). If they don’t get Kane, they don’t win the Premier League. I don’t think they do.

“I look at the team and think everyone else has caught up with them, in terms of the teams they’ve got.

“You can’t get away with not having a proper no.9 up front. You could see yesterday they weren’t good enough to score enough goals.

“They need to sign Harry Kane. It will be disappointing for us, Spurs, if he does go. I will be gutted, but you can see Spurs can cope without Harry Kane.

“Spurs are bigger than Harry Kane. If he goes, the club will move on and we will spend the money and we will move on from the situation.

“We showed yesterday we are good enough without him.”

Will Daniel Levy let Harry Kane join Man City?

Harry Kane has dropped pretty solid hints that he wishes to move out of Spurs this summer but Daniel Levy is in no hurry to cash in on him.

Most importantly, he is nowhere near the end of his contract but even if Spurs do let him leave this summer for an enormous transfer fee, that money will be practically useless for them.

In such a short span of time, they won’t be able to sign a top-class replacement thereby leaving them short in the attacking areas. And even if they do find an heir, clubs will automatically inflate their price tags.

As per the latest rumours, Man City are not giving up the chase just yet but we don’t think Pep Guardiola will be able to get his hands on Kane this summer. So it’s either Ferran Torres or Gabriel Jesus who will have to step up to the plate or Guardiola will have to play with a false nine throughout the season.
