During the beginning of the season, Arsenal were sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table but since then they have managed to climb to the 13th spot.

But for a club who were challenging for the Premier League and the Champions League only a few years ago, this is certainly not where they want to be.

Mikel Arteta is slowly turning things around at the club but according to pundit Jamie Carragher, the Gunners need to bring in world-class players if they wish to challenge for silverware.

“You look at the team’s challenging for the league now and that’s where Arsenal are trying to get to, you need world-class players,” Carragher said on The Overlap.

“They have two or three young players, Smith Rowe, Saka and Odegaard – they’re not world-class but they have the potential to be special.

“But they won’t all get there, they won’t all get to the level that’s needed to challenge for the title, so they’ll need to keep spending in the next three or four transfer windows.”

Arsenal have spent a lot of money during the previous summer transfer window but instead of bringing in superstars, Mikel Arteta has invested in players like Lokonga and Aaron Ramsdale.

At first, all these investments were frowned upon but slowly all these players are starting to prove their worth.

While Carragher has hit the nail on the head with his analysis but the sad reality is that no big-name player will want to join Arsenal at this point in time.

The Gunners are going through a major rebuilding phase and they don’t even have European football in their cradle. So there’s no way that a world-class superstar will want to take the gamble of joining the Emirates outfit.

The first and most basic thing they will need to do is to get back into the Champions League or Europa League before they can seriously start bidding for the big names. And from there onwards, Mikel Arteta can try and bring in the players he really wants.
