Chelsea and Liverpool both kicked off their Champions League campaign on the wrong foot as they suffered defeats in their opening group games.

While Liverpool went down 2-0 to Napoli away from home, the Blues lost to Spanish side Valencia 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

And looking to get things back on track, these two English giants will now lock horns this weekend in the Premier League.

This isn’t the first meeting between the two sides this campaign as they met once before in the UEFA Cup – a match in which Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties.

But this Sunday’s clash has a lot riding on it especially since Liverpool are yet to taste defeat in the Liverpool but at the same time, the wounds of the Napoli defeat will be fresh.

So naturally, in such a scenario, no one really expects Jurgen Klopp to set up a defensive-minded side on Sunday. And according to pundit Charlie Nicholas, Chelsea can actually use this to their advantage.

“I think Frank Lampard wants to attack, which opens up the counter-attack scenario for Liverpool,” Charlie Nicholas wrote for Sky Sports.

“They both got bad results in Europe through the week, they are making mistakes that they didn’t make last season and you can get at their defence.

“Pedro and Willian behind Tammy Abraham is a trio of danger. They need to find the killer pass in this game, which I think they will.

“Liverpool will pin them in when they can, but it will be an open game of football, which will see Liverpool drop their 100 per cent record.”

Chelsea will be without Antonio Rudiger and to be honest we have serious doubts if Kurt Zouma and Christensen can keep the likes of Salah, Firmino and Mane at bay for the full 90 minutes.

So naturally Lampard would be looking at his attackers to give Chelsea the edge in the game but with Mason Mount out of the picture, scoring a handful of goals looks to be a really difficult prospect for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
