Man United beat Man City 2-1 in the Premier League this weekend and with that Guardiola’s hopes of defending that league title might have evaporated.

The Red Devils went into the match as complete underdogs but their performance was anything but that with the likes of Daniel James and Marcus Rashford tearing apart City’s defence.

Speaking after the match, even Pep Guardiola had to admit that the Man United forwards were too much to handle.

The City boss claimed that his players knew the pace Man United posses in attack but his players could do very little to negate that on Saturday.

And now, Alan Shearer talking on MOTD has explained how Man City basically played the match into Solskjaer’s hands.

“City played right into United’s hands, they (United) exploited it brilliantly in terms of how quick they were in attack, they had the width, the pace and the intensity,” Shearer said on Match of the Day as quoted by MEN.

“They attacked with aggression and time after time, City left three on four and United punished them. It’s no exaggeration, it could have been and should have been four or five.

“They opened them up with ease every time they went forward. When teams are brave and prepared to get through their press, it’s there for you.

“There’s lots of space, City just couldn’t handle them. They should have scored more goals.”

Jose Mourinho had said last week that the current Man United side love to play against teams which work on the front foot. And this was once again true during the Manchester Derby when City took the onus upon themselves to pick up all three points.

The loss now means Man United have moved up to the fifth spot on the league table while City are 14 points behind leaders, Liverpool and many believe the Citizens might have already lost the challenge.
