Timo Werner to Chelsea EPL

Timo Werner was the marquee signing for Chelsea during the summer transfer window but the forward has really struggled to get his act together in the EPL so far this season.

During the 2020-21 season, Werner has featured in 19 Premier League games for the Blues but has managed to find the net only four times. This is in stark contrast with the 28 goals he had scored in 34 games for Leipzig last season and he’s already being dubbed as the biggest flop of the season in England.

Lampard has tried a lot of things with Timo Werner but nothing has worked so far and according to his former boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, Chelsea cannot get the best out of the German international since they are not playing to his strengths.

The Saints manager said, as per The Daily Mail: “Most of the time when I have seen this is because of the reason that the game doesn’t fit to him. The team didn’t play in the way he can bring his best on the pitch, I think.

“He is definitely a player where you have to adapt your game on him. If you do this, he will give you everything you need from a striker.

“You really need to bring him into his best position so he can bring his strength on the pitch and then for me, he is one of the best strikers in Europe.”

Last season, Timo Werner played a total of 45 games for RB Leipzig across all competitions and out of those 38 were as the main striker.

But at Chelsea, the 24-year-old has been forced to play mostly out on the left wing and this tactical adjustment has really hampered his performances so far this season.

Frank Lampard is fixated on using either Giroud or Tammy Abraham up front and this is clearly stopping Timo Werner from playing his A game at Chelsea.

The forward is obviously going to get the rest of the season to prove his worth at Chelsea but we doubt if he will ever get his mojo back under current manager Frank Lampard.
