Liverpool travel to the Allianz Arena this Wednesday to take on Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16.
The first leg ended in a goalless draw and Van Dijk is planning to stop Robert Lewandowski during the second leg too.
Van Dijk missed the first leg due to suspension but now that the Dutchman is back, he is well aware of the threat posed by the Polish international.
Robert Lewandowski has been in top form this season scoring 17 goals in just 24 games in the Bundesliga this season and right now the 30-year-old is also the top scorer in the Champions League with eight goals.
‘You need to be aware of the qualities of every striker you face, as I always am,’ Van Dijk told UEFA.com.
‘But sometimes you need to be smart and more than 100 per cent ready for anything.
‘If he’s trying to run at you, trying to get past you, you need to be ready for that as well. You don’t need to give any opportunities to those strikers because they will punish you and they will score.’

‘I’m very proud to play for all these fans, for the manager, with these fantastic players and to wear the shirt every game. To play with pressure is always a good thing. I like to play with pressure.’
The Champions League tie is perfectly poised at 0-0 and many Liverpool fans are happy that their team have prevented Bayern from getting that precious away goal in the first leg.
But on the other hand, they also know it for a fact that the likes Robert Lewandowski and Frank Ribery can inflict a lot of damage on their own turf.
