Liverpool have won their first four games of the 2018-19 Premier League season – the first time since 1990 and Jurgen Klopp’s men have been tipped by many to challenge Manchester City to the league title this campaign.

But the scene was a whole lot different at the end of the new year when the Anfield outfit was trying hard to hold onto their star man Philippe Coutinho.

Eventually, the Brazilian secured his dream move to Barcelona during the summer transfer window in a £142 million deal and Liverpool looked all set for a crisis situation.

But Klopp handled the situation pretty well and now Liverpool are a force to reckon with.

On top of that, the club have also used the £142 million pretty well – bringing in Van Dijk and Alisson Becker during the past couple of months.

But as things stand the Premier League outfit is set to receive £4.4 million from Barcelona in regards to the transfer of Philippe Coutinho.

You see, the deal for the Brazilian had a basic fee of £106m, plus an extra £36m in variables.

And amongst the variables, the Catalans will pay Liverpool £17m for Coutinho’s first 100 appearances for the club which is broken down into £4.4m at each 25-match stage.

Coutinho just made his 25th appearance for Barcelona against Real Valladolid last Saturday, so the La Liga outfit will now have to pay the first £4.4m to Liverpool – as per reports.

At first glance, Coutinho’s sale to Barcelona looked to be a pretty bad move for Liverpool more so when Jurgen Klopp refused to bring in a replacement for the Brazilian immediately.

But now as the dust settles, we can see what a good move it was to offload Philippe Coutinho.

Now the Liverpool fans should hope that the forward has a big career at Barcelona so that their own club can reap the benefits.
