Manchester United’s latest signing Fred suffered an injury scare during a training session with Brazil on Thursday. And immediately there were doubts that the midfielder might miss the World Cup which starts next week.

The midfielder was on the receiving end of a tackle from Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro and as soon as the collision happened Fred limped in pain.

The 25-year-old immediately fell to the ground clutching his right ankle.

The medical staff ran onto the pitch to attend to Fred after which he was taken off and the training session carried on without him.

Fred was seen sitting out for the rest of the session with ice packs wrapped around his right ankle.

Now though, Fred’s national teammate Marcelo has revealed that the midfielder’s injury is not a serious one and he should be fully fit before the World Cup commences.

Marcelo said: “This is the World Cup,

“Everybody’s training hard, working hard and there are these moments in training.

“But I believe it’s not that serious, I believe it’s not a big problem for us and I think he’ll be back with us as soon as possible.”

Marcelo’s update on Fred’s injury comes as a huge sigh of relief for a large section of the fans.

But we doubt if Fred will be able to make it to the first eleven during Brazil’s last pre-tournament warm-up against Austria on Sunday.

Even if the midfielder does make himself fit, we doubt if the Brazilian coach will risk playing him.
