Donyell Malen Borussia Dortmund

Premier League sides Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen.

Donyell Malen is having a great season with BVB and if an interested club is ready to pay around €60 million for the 25-year-old, the Bundesliga side will allow him to leave at the end of this season.

Manchester United seem to be at the front of the queue because as per Fabrizio Romano, the club has a good relationship with Malen’s agents and the Red Devils can also use Jadon Sancho in a possible swap deal for the winger.

Liverpool are also said to be very keen but they are probably last in the pecking order because Donyell Malen is an Arsenal academy graduate and he recently hinted that he wants another crack at reviving his Gunners career.

Is Donyell Malen set to join one of the three interested EPL sides in the summer?

Donyell Malen left the Arsenal academy to join PSV Eindhoven in 2017 and after a few good seasons, he moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for a fee of around €30 million.

Since then, he’s played in 106 games for BVB, scoring 32 and assisting 19 goals. This season, he has an xG of 7.28 and an xA of 3.28 across 1610 minutes of league football.

Former Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart has recently claimed that Donyell Malen has some attributes of the great Kylian Mbappe which makes him a very exciting player.

“I look for potential,” the one-time Ajax playmaker tells Rondo[h/t HITC]. “He’s so light-footed, so fast. A bit like what Kylian Mbappe has. Not that I’m comparing him to Mbappe, but Malen does have it in him.”

The 25-year-old is a natural right-winger but can play all across the front line, even as a centre-forward.

His current market value is €35 million with two years remaining on his contract and that’s the main reason why clubs like Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool will hesitate to pay €60 million for him.

He’s a very exciting player who likes to dribble and take on defenders but he’s not great at covering defensively and that is a big drawback in terms of the Premier League. In the English top division, only a handful of wingers are allowed the luxury to remain up top and not help out in defensive situations but we are sure Donyell Malen is not in that bracket.

For Liverpool, this deal wouldn’t make much sense because he is not going to fill Mo Salah’s shoes, that’s for sure and we doubt if Arsenal will be ready to pay €60 million for Donyell Malen when they already have Bukayo Saka.

Manchester United are perhaps the only club that can afford to go after the Netherlands international by trying to secure a swap deal between him and Jadon Sancho.
