Douglas Luiz is easily one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League right now which is probably why Liverpool are interested in signing him, claims Football Insider.

Arsenal failed to sign him last summer and they still are being linked with the Brazilian international alongside Barcelona who are also monitoring his situation at Villa Park.

Douglas Luiz has scored six and assisted three goals in 20 Premier League appearances this season and the 25-year-old has been one of the most consistent central midfielders outside of the traditional top six clubs. He’s been a mainstay in the Aston Villa team under Unai Emery and recently, Luiz gathered praise from Roy Keane as well.

Keane said on Sky Sports: “He turns up every week this player. Never seems to be injured. Quality player. I like him.

“I think he was linked with Arsenal last year. There are no surprises there, with some of the Villa players, you think they can certainly go on to play for a Man United, Arsenal or even Man City, you look at Watkins.

“But I like Luiz. He is consistent. Turns up week in and week out. You know what you are going to get from him. I like a lot about him. Probably lacks that real pace maybe. In terms of his decision-making and looking after the ball. Very, very good.”

Luiz’s top-drawer performances have been bringing in quality suitors each passing week but we really do not see Villa selling the 25-year-old this month.

The midfielder’s contract at Villa Park expires in 2026 so Emery is in no hurry to offload him. Just to keep Luiz out of the market, Villa have slapped a £100 million price tag on his shoulder and neither of the three interested clubs can afford to pay such a steep price during the middle of the season.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has already hinted that his side might not sign any new players this month and even Barca’s financial position won’t allow them to pay anything close to £100 million for Douglas Luiz.

Liverpool badly need a new central midfielder for the second half of the season but there’s no way the Fenway group will spend so much money on a single player. Klopp will probably have to make do with the midfielders he currently has and unless Aston Villa are offering Douglas Luiz on a loan deal, there’s no way he will be playing in Anfield any time soon.

The Brazilian will most certainly want to play for one of these big boys but he will have to wait until the summer in order to secure a move up.
