Chelsea might finally be able to get their hands on Rennes keeper Edouard Mendy since the French side are in the hunt for a new shot-stopper, according to L’Equipe.

The report suggests: “Edouard Mendy on the start, no doubt to Chelsea, Stade Rennais is looking for a new goalkeeper and its leaders have thought of Alphonse Areola.

“The twenty-seven-year-old French international goalkeeper, under contract with PSG until June 2023, saw his loan to Real Madrid not renewed.”

Chelsea have already made a bid for the 28-year-old keeper but it was turned down by Rennes pretty swiftly.

But now that the Ligue 1 side are reportedly looking for a replacement for Edouard Mendy, they might have finally come to terms with the fact that their current No 1 will be heading to the Premier League sooner than later.

The Telegraph are claiming that the Stamford Bridge outfit are planning to make another offer for the Senegalese international and this time they are confident their offer will be accepted.

Lampard has been eager to bring in a long-term replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga before the new league season kicks off but at one point it seemed like the Spaniard was set to remain the No 1 at the club for one more season.

But in the past couple of days, Chelsea have made rapid advancements in the transfer of Edouard Mendy and by the looks of it, the Blues management should be able to wrap this one up pretty quickly.

Chelsea’s last bid for the keeper was in the region of €20 million but they are expected to up it in their revised offer.
