Only one Premier League can afford to sign this 21 Y/O centre-forward: But is he even worth the gamble?

Borussia Dortmund

Erling Haaland has seen a meteoric rise over the previous few seasons and it’s almost certain that he will be moving out of Borussia Dortmund next summer.

Latest reports have revealed that Haaland’s contract has a €75m release clause which is set to be active from the end of the current season. And if this report is true then close to half a dozen clubs will fight it out to sign him in the summer.

But, at the same time, the Norwegian is using this opportunity to demand wages of around £30 per year. Yes, that’s more than £500,000-a-week for a player who’s just 20 years old.

An ESPN report is claiming: “Erling Haaland will command wages of at least £30 million ($41m)-a-year if he leaves Borussia Dortmund for a new club next summer, sources have told ESPN.

“Haaland, 21, can reportedly leave Dortmund at the end of this season if a club triggers his €75m ($87m) release clause at Signal Iduna Park. Sources have told ESPN the fee will be inflated by a significant payment to Haaland’s representatives for brokering a deal.

“ESPN has been told that senior figures from interested clubs have been made aware that Haaland expects a pay deal that would see him earn in excess of £500,000-a-week.”

Erling Haaland setting himself up to be a massive failure?

Haaland has been on fire in the Bundesliga and this season he’s already netted nine goals in six league matches. But, he must keep in mind that he’s playing in Germany, a league that has only a handful of clubs who fight it out for the title every year.

While we are not saying he’s going to be a failure in another country but something like the Premier League is a totally different cup of tea. Even the La Liga has more competition in comparison to the German top division.

Players like Luka Jovic, Timo Werner and Jadon Sancho are all struggling to cope up outside of Germany. But these very same players were the crown jewels in the Bundesliga in the past few campaigns.

And not only these players but several other superstars have fallen prey to the ferocity of the Premier League and if Erling Haaland is really making such major demands then the limelight on him will be even more, should he actually head to England.

We can understand why he’s demanding such massive wages but if a club is ready to pay up then they will want the 21-year-old to score week in week out. Especially in England where the media will hound him down and label him a failure if he fails to put the ball in the back of the net only a few weeks in a row.

Romelu Lukaku, a seasoned pro in the Serie A has gone a few weeks without scoring for Chelsea and the pundits in England are already busy dissecting his performances as well as his playing style. Now just imagine what will happen to Erling Haaland if he’s earning around £30 million at a Premier League club.

Interested clubs to have second thoughts about signing Erling Haaland?

Clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, Man United and Real Madrid have all been linked with the forward and if he’s really is available for around €75 million then a few other clubs will line up as well.

But if Haaland’s demanding £500,000-a-week then several of the interested clubs will also think long and hard about signing the 21-year-old.

Manchester United and Chelsea are two clubs who might actually back out if these demands are correct while Real Madrid will also focus on bringing in Kylian Mbappe and making the Frenchman their main frontman.

Manchester City though might go ahead with this deal since they not only have the finances to make this deal work but they are also in desperate need of a world-class centre-forward.

Overall, it’s Mino Raiola who’s pulling the strings from the background and given how shrewd he is, there’s very little chance that Erling Haaland will soften his demands, especially if the release clause is actually present in his contract.
