It’s no secret that Chelsea are looking to bring in a replacement to Kepa Arrizabalaga during the summer and it looks like Lampard might have finally found his man.

According to reports coming out from Turkey, the Premier League side have reached an agreement to sign Tranzonspor’s 24-year-old keeper Ugurcan Cakir.

The report claims: “It turned out that Uğurcan Çakır, the pupil of both Trabzonspor and the national team, reached an agreement with the British giant Chelsea.

“This season, it was reported that Chelsea, who aimed to stay in the Champions League with Frank Lampard, did not get the expected efficiency from 25-year-old gloves Kepa, and it was learned that ‘Blues’ agreed with Uğurcan Çakır for 33 million euros.

“Uğurcan, who pursued European giants with his performance in Trabzonspor, became the dream of the Premier League, while Trabzonspor’s high testimonial income from this transfer also relieved the club financially.”

Will Ugurcan Cakir really replace Kepa Arrizabalaga?

Ugurcan Cakir has come up through the ranks at Trabzonspor and this season he has played in 31 Super Lig matches for the club, managing to keep just four clean sheets in the process.

Overall, the keeper has conceded 48 goals in 40 matches across all competitions during the 2019-20 campaign which is a clear indication that he is not the best suited to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The news source cannot be fully trusted and we doubt if Lampard will want to replace his current No 1 with a relatively unknown keeper next season.

Chelsea are being linked with goalkeepers like Jan Oblak and Nick Pope and amongst this, the signing of Ugurcan Cakir just does not make any sense – that too at such a steep price.

Also, Cakir is being eyed by league rivals Leicester City so we doubt if Trabzonspor would let one of their high-value targets leave so easily – without listening to offers from the Foxes.
