Chelsea have been backed to sign West Ham United forward Marko Arnautovic during the past couple of weeks as the Blues are expected to launch a bid at the end of the season.

Marko Arnautovic has been tipped to leave West Ham after his brother put forward some heavy wage demands infront of the club and the Blues are now said to be the frontrunners in signing the Austrian international.

And if Chelsea were to move for the Hammers man then surely Olivier Giroud would be the one who would be sacrificed by the club.

Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea during the January new year and his current contract with the club expires next summer and there have already been rumours that the Stamford Bridge outfit are looking at Marko Arnautovic as a long-term replacement meaning they might not renew the Frenchman’s contract.

While Olivier Giroud chipped in with a few goals last season but this campaign he has only managed to score a single goal. And this poor form is certainly not helping his cause at the club.

But speaking during the international break, the Frenchman has refused to fuel talks about his exit from the club claiming that he is ready to fight for his place.

Olivier Giroud said: “I feel like it is as if we are where we were several months ago when I was being asked the same questions before the World Cup,

“Today, I am calm, happy with this World Cup title. I relativise a lot of things.

“I don’t need to put myself under more pressure than that. Of course, I am a competitor and I would like more playing time.

“But I am in a very big club, with very big players. I am going to fight and for the moment, it is not a question about seeking a departure. I am going to stick in there and do not count on me to give up.

“I came back late from the World Cup [so] Morata played.

“In the national team in September, with this goal against the Netherlands, that did me good.

“After that, when I came back to Chelsea, I played several matches as a starter.

“Today, the coach has introduced healthy competition. Morata started again, he played well.

“It is true that we were having issues in the effectiveness department, he scored, and things are going better.”

During the first couple of months, Maurizio Sarri seemed to put his faith on Olivier Giroud but as the season has rolled on, Sarri has fallen back to Alvaro Morata.
