Brendan Rodgers Leicester City vs Man United

Celtic FC recently received a massive bow as their long-serving manager Brendan Rodgers chose to abandon them during the middle of the season.

Brendan Rodgers took charge of the Bhoys in 2016 and after winning seven major trophies with the Glasgow club, he chose to join Leicester City late last month.

This sudden move from Rodgers came as a shock to many since Leicester are not fighting for any silverware this season whereas Celtic are more or less guaranteed atleast one trophy.

And speaking about the sudden departure, football pundit Chris Sutton has revealed as to why the 46-year-old manager chose to leave Celtic FC at the drop of a hat.

Sutton said: “When Brendan Rodgers first went into Celtic he talked about making Celtic a regular Champions League last 16 club. In terms of Europe, he failed.

“What you have to understand is the timing – for the sake of 10 or 11 weeks, Celtic fans wouldn’t have harboured a grudge against Brendan.

“With regards to Rodgers, it’s caused a massive stir north of the border and Celtic fans worshipped him. They feel as though he’s been disloyal and it’s hard to argue that for the sake of 10 weeks.

“I’m not buying it, I’m really not buying this thing of he had to take this job now – he didn’t.”

Apart from this theory from Sutton, some people have also claimed that Rangers’ resurgence under Steven Gerrard might have been the cause for Brendan Rodgers’ move to England.

When Rodgers was winning trophies for fun during the past couple of seasons, Rangers had been a shadow of their past self. But this year, things have changed under their new boss Steven Gerrard.

And maybe, Brendan Rodgers did not like the competition.
