Scottish Premiership sides Celtic and Rangers have both been linked with a summer move for Peterborough United centre-forward Ivan Toney.

But the League One side had recently made it clear that they will only part ways with the 24-year-old if the interested clubs were ready to cough up as much as £15million.

The club’s director of football, Barry Fry had told The Daily Mail (via The Scottish Sun): “I’ve had agents on telling me that Rangers and Celtic are very interested. But I haven’t had any calls from either Rangers or Celtic, personally.

“If they have any sense, they’ll pay us £15million to get him. If they haven’t any sense at all, then I won’t be hearing from them.”

And now club owner Darragh MacAnthony had dropped another bombshell by claiming that they will not hesitate to hold onto Ivan Toney until the January transfer window if they do not get the right value this time around.

He told Peterborough Today: “All five of us at a meeting to discuss players for next season (Fry, co-owners Darragh MacAnthony, Dr Jason Neale and Stewart Thompson, plus manager Darren Ferguson) agreed that Ivan would be sold, but only for the right price.

“If that doesn’t happen we will keep him and we will sell him in January.

“Obviously we expect him to go in the summer because his talent demands that clubs will bust a gut to get him, but we will see how it pans out. If he did go the money we would receive would get us through next season.

“We are currently working on replacements for Ivan and we might have to sign two players to replace him properly.”

The striker has one year left on his current deal so holding onto him for another six months is a really dangerous situation for the League One club. But, at the same time, one thing’s pretty clear.

Clubs like Rangers FC and Celtic will have to pay up the full value if they wish to sign Toney during the upcoming summer transfer window.

There are talks that the summer window might be stretched till January of next year which is great news for the Scottish sides but nothing has been finalised yet.

Also, apart from these two SPFL sides, Ivan Toney is also wanted by a couple of big English sides and some experts think, the centre-forward will not even consider the Old Firm clubs if a Championship or a Premier League club wants him.
