Steven Gerrard is planning to bring in a number of new players during the summer but with that, he could also lose a few of his star players.

While most of the limelight is on Alfredo Morelos and the interest that he is getting in the transfer market but it looks like James Tavernier might be another one who could be on his way out.

James Tavernier joined Rangers from Wigan Athletic back in 2015 and since then the right-back has been a key player for the Gers.

The right-back is currently the captain of the Rangers squad and during the 2018-19 season has been in top form.

James Tavernier has featured in 57 games across all competitions for the Teddy Bears and he ended the campaign with 17 goals and 20 assists.

This fine form has caught the attention of some of the big English clubs and there are concerns that the player might be heading to the Premier League during the summer.

Newly promoted side Aston Villa are said to be interested in signing Tavernier as Dean Smith looks to gather a squad fit to compete in the Premier League.

Villa have released Alan Hutton and Ritchie De Laet which means Smith is currently in the market looking for a new right-back and it is being reported that the manager has grown a liking for James Tavernier.

Aston Villa though aren’t the only club who are interested in signing the Rangers full-back as West Brom too have been keeping tabs on the player for some time now.

Newcastle United too have been interested in James Tavernier but we do not think that Rafa Benitez will make a move for the defender given that he is already planning to sign Alfredo Morelos.

It is still unclear whether Rangers would be ready to let Tavernier leave this summer but if a serious opportunity to play in the Premier League comes around, the right-back himself might look to force a way out of Ibrox.
