Champions League Vertonghen Tottenham Spurs news

Tottenham Hotspur host Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend and Mauricio Pochettino will surely have a tough time in picking a win.

The Blues are currently on a 19-game unbeaten run while the Lilywhites have made their best ever start to a new Premier League season.

Going into the match, both the teams are quite evenly matched but Chelsea will surely have the upper hand given Sarri has a fully fit squad to choose from.

Pochettino, on the other hand, has a number of key injuries and players like Kieran Trippier and Davinson Sanchez might just not make it to the matchday squad.

Midfielder Mousa Dembele remains a long-term absentee and will only return in January.

But amongst all this, the Spurs manager has finally provided some good news revealing that Jan Vertonghen has returned back to training.

Vertonghen picked up a hamstring injury during the final week of September and since then the centre-back has missed as many as 13 games for the Lilywhites.

But he is expected to make it to the matchday squad against Chelsea on Saturday.

“It is very good news, he has been training with the group,” Pochettino said at his pre-match news conference.

“We have to wait until tomorrow [Friday] to see whether he can be involved.

“Jan is such an important player for us. We have a very busy period ahead so it’s important to recover our players.”

Spurs are just a single point behind Chelsea in the League table meaning a win against their London rivals will take them to the third spot.
