Liverpool's Jordan Henderson playing for England

Jordan Henderson has taken it upon himself to urge all the other Premier League club captains to create a crisis fund which will help the NHS during this crucial hour – as per reports.

On Friday the Premier League authorities had announced that they would be donating £20 million in order to help fight the pandemic and now it seems like all the Premier League captains are set to follow suit.

The Premier League statement read: “In consultation with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Premier League is immediately committing £20 million to support the NHS, communities, families and vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This includes a direct financial contribution to the NHS and funds to enable clubs to refocus their efforts and develop significant outreach programmes to help communities, including those most in need.”

Now The Times are reporting that Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been contacting the captains of other Premier League clubs in order to pool together a massive fund which will help the NHS. And so far the response has been fairly positive.

The report states: “Jordan Henderson is organising a Premier League coronavirus crisis fund for the NHS that will run into millions of pounds.

“The Times understands that the Liverpool captain has spent the last few days contacting the captains of other Premier League clubs to pitch the idea.

“Talks with Premier League captains were continuing today and the initial reaction has been wholly positive, with players determined to raise cash for those on the frontline. Indeed the players are happy to engage with Hancock and his department despite the criticism they have received. They will seek NHS and government guidance on how best the money can be distributed to combat the global pandemic.

“Contact has already been made with banks to set up the fund, which footballers will simply be asked to contribute to on the understanding that there is a wide variation of salaries across the Premier League.”

This is a worthy cause from Jordan Henderson and if all the Premier League captains are willing to pool in money into this crisis fund then the amount could reach millions of pounds with the report also suggesting that public donations will also be welcomed.
