Jordan Pickford England and Everton

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are interested in signing Everton’s 29-year-old goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Man United want David De Gea to take a significant pay cut in his new contract but the Spaniard is not ready to put pen to paper just yet and this has led many people to believe that the keeper could have already played his final game for the club.

Even if De Gea signs the new deal, Manchester United will still bring in a new goalkeeper because the 32-year-old is in no way a sweeper keeper plus he is really poor with his feet.

The report is suggesting that Manchester United are preparing a £45 million bid for Jordan Pickford and there’s hope that Everton will be ready to sell their current No 1.

Should Man United spend money on Jordan Pickford?

Jordan Pickford has been a standout player for Everton and he was one of the main reasons why the Toffees have avoided relegation.

He will definitely be an upgrade to De Gea but £45 million plus is a very unrealistic fee for the England international. He is contracted with Goodison Park until 2027 so there are heavy doubts that the club will sell him for just £45 million and it makes no sense to spend £55-60 million for a player who is already 29 years old.

Man United will be much better off going after someone like Mike Maignan or Diogo Costa because both of them are young and they will have a longer time at their peak as compared to Jordan Pickford. Milan’s Maignan is 27 while man United’s primary target Costa is only 23 years old.

Erik ten Hag’s ultimate dream is to play a proper possession-based football and for that, he needs a new keeper who can replace David De Gea. Pickford is someone who fits this description but United will be much better off splashing money on the other young keepers.
