Lampard admits of a major concern before Chelsea face Watford: But there’s no solution

N'Golo Kante Chelsea France

Chelsea suffered a loss in midweek to Man United in the Carabao Cup and it looks like Lampard has some issues with Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

Jorginho had some problems last season and was heavily criticised for his poor performances. But the former Napoli man has settled in quite nicely this campaign under the guidance of his new manager.

Mateo Kovacic too has seen a significant amount of game time this season and right now the pair have been playing too much football for their manager’s likeness.

Right now Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and N’Golo Kante are sidelined with injuries which is why both Jorginho and Kovacic are playing each and every game and this is taking a toll on their fitness.

The Chelsea boss has admitted that he would like to give some much-deserved rest to the midfielders but right now he cannot do that due to the injuries to his other midfielders.

Lampard said(as reported): “I would have liked to have given Jorginho particularly and Kovacic a rest as well because of the work they’re putting in and because of the endurance of the season and the physical output of the players has been a lot.

“But I couldn’t because of N’Golo and because of Ross and because Ruben’s long-term – hopefully on the road, but a fair way away.

“So I couldn’t make those changes that I kind of wanted to. That’s just what it is.”

Jorginho Chelsea

Jorginho has really upped his game this season under the new Chelsea manager but right now he is playing almost each and every game which ultimately could lead to some serious injury.

The only way that the Italian and Kovacic can both get some rest is when Kante and the rest of the midfielders return back to full training.

And while the manager did not talk about Barkley and Loftus-Cheek but he did say that N’Golo Kante is close to a return and should play a game before the next international break.

The manager told the clubs’ official website: ‘He is hopefully going to join in training in the next two or three days. Hopefully, he will be back before the international break.’
