Jose Mourinho took charge of Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week just hours after the club sacked Mauricio Pochettino and speaking to the press, the newly appointed boss has promised to give youth a chance.

“I really like this squad,” Mourinho told the reporters.

“Looking at the young players, there is not one manager in the world that doesn’t like to play young players and to help young players develop. There is not one.

“The problem is that sometimes you get into clubs where the work that is below you is not good enough to produce these players so I look to our history and you see that the academy is always giving the talents that the first team need.

“Of course I look forward to work with that profile.”

Now, Jose Mourinho is not known as the type of manager who would necessarily promote youth so naturally, this statement of his caused a lot of buzz amongst the fans as well as the pundits.

But former Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has made it clear that if the Spurs boss does give youth a chance then the players will surely not disappoint.

“The thing about young people is if you give them an opportunity, not only do they seize it, they never let you down,” he told talkSPORT exclusively.

“They have enthusiasm to do well.

“If we go back to the young lads of ‘92, you give them an opportunity to play for Man United in front of 75,000 and they don’t want to miss that,” the legendary coach added.

“And they all did very well, and they’re also very good human beings.”

Pochettino has been praised time and again for picking up rough pieces of rocks and turning them into polished diamonds. And now it will be interesting to see whether Jose Mourinho can do the same during his time at the North London club.
