Rangers FC won their third qualifying round of the Europa League against Maribor 3-1 and Gerrard’s new look side showed great character to pick up a crucial advantage in the first leg.

But Thursday was also the final day of the English transfer window which saw a number of players from Scotland move to England.

Rangers’s Declan John signed a three-year contract with Championship side Swansea City while attacking midfielder Josh Windass moved to Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

And both these transfers had very different reactions amongst the Light Blues fans.

The departure of Declan John had very little impact amongst the fans given that Gerrard had a number of players who can give cover in the left-back area.

But the exit of Josh Windass caused a fair bit of uproar amongst the fans given that the attacking midfielder played a crucial role for the Gers last season.

A number of fans were angry at the management for letting Windass leave the club but the actions of Josh’s father has not done any good for the 24-year-old’s image.

Josh Windass had already made a bad name for frequently getting into altercations with the fans on social media and now his dad Dean Windass has done the same thing.

After Windass secured a move to the Championship a Twitter user asked Dean Windass if he was happy with the transfer – referring to the Windass’ father as fatty.

But Windass senior was not one to take the comment lying down as he replied back calling the Rangers fans as ‘mongs’.

The tweet was deleted as soon as it was noticed by a significant number of people but this reply from Josh Windass’ father has not gone down too well with the Light Blues fans.

Inspite of having a great season last time around, Rangers are not expected to miss Josh Windass given that Steven Gerrard has brought the likes of Lassana Coulibaly and Ryan Kent who are more than capable of playing in the same area of the pitch.
