Rangers vs Leipzig

Rangers FC were one of the more busier clubs during the deadline day of the English transfer window but instead of buying players from England, Gerrard chose to sell off a couple of his men.

Left wing-back Declan John joined Championship side Swansea City while attacking midfielder Josh Windass joined Wigan Athletic on a three-year contract.

But news on Friday have suggested that the Light Blues are not yet done with their transfer business and Steven Gerrard is on the verge of making his 12th signings of the summer.

A couple of days ago we had reported that Steven Gerrard is interested in bringing youngster Jack Simpson from AFC Bournemouth on a season-long loan deal.

Simpson had reportedly agreed to move to Ibrox but that transfer was put on hold by Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe after his defender Nathan Ake suffered an injury.

The defender picked up a knock during Bournemouth’s friendly against Marseille on Saturday and Bournemouth did not want Jack Simpson to move to Rangers before they had fully assessed Ake’s injury.

But now reports are suggesting that Nathan Ake is back in contention for Bournemouth’s season opener against Cardiff City on Saturday and his toe injury is not very serious – which means that Jack Simpson could be on his way to Scotland during the coming few days.

The English transfer window closed down on Thursday night but the Scottish window remains open until August 31 which means that Rangers can still bring in players.

Rangers have signed centre-backs Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson earlier on during the summer but Steven Gerrard still needs to bring in a backup defender. And it seems that Jack Simpson might just be that final piece of the puzzle for the Gers manager.
