Chelsea are one of the favourites to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer and it looks like the Blues have moved one step closer.

Bayern Munich are another club who have shown a keen interest in signing the 21-year-old midfielder but now the Germans have reportedly backed out from this transfer after spending a lot of money on signing Leroy Sane from Manchester City.

Bayern chief Uli Hoeness told FAZ, via talkSPORT: “I am sure that, after Leroy Sane, there will be no major transfers this year.

“That has nothing to do with the quality of Havertz. We all think he is a very, very good player.

“But in the coronavirus period after a transfer of almost 50 million, one of 70, 80 million or more I can’t imagine making unless we secure counter-financing through player sales.”

This is another major boost for Chelsea manager Frank Lampard since Kai Havertz is one of the most sought-after players in European football right now.

Havertz has scored 12 goals and provided six assists in just 30 Bundesliga matches for Leverkusen during the 2019-20 season and he will undoubtedly be a top-class addition to the squad.

As per the latest reports, Chelsea have made a £70million plus add-ons bid for the playmaker and are now waiting for a response from Bayer Leverkusen.
