MCFC midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has played only one match this season before picking up an injury and he’s now hinted that his recovery process is going slow and steady.

The Belgian underwent surgery to solve his hamstring issue and there’s no way he will be rushed back into the side which suggests that he could be out of action until the new year.

“It [the recovery] is actually going very well,” De Bruyne told VTM Nieuws(h/t Fotmob). “There will be a major scan next week and then we will know how the injury is progressing.

“In the end, everything is going according to schedule. City are daily in touch with surgeon Geert Declercq and Belgian physio Lieven Maesschalck, but they have not given me a deadline for when I will be able to play football again.

“It is important that I get this [recovery] 100% right. There were a lot of cracks. Those hamstrings could have torn at any time. It was like a wet kitchen towel. I had a major maintenance carried out after 700 matches, a bit like you do with your car.”

Kevin De Bruyne has played 358 games for Manchester City across all competitions and he’s one player who’s been a constant starter since joining the Cityzens. The way he’s talking about his recovery, it looks like KDB has narrowly escaped a major setback which is why the doctors and physios are reluctant to rush things.

De Bruyne has played only 23 minutes of league football for MCFC this campaign but thankfully, Pep Guardiola has found the ideal number 10 in the form of Julian Alvarez. The 23-year-old has played in the attacking midfielder’s role since KDB got injured and in 10 appearances, the Argentine has netted four and assisted three goals.

If De Bruyne is out of action for a few more months then definitely it will be a problem for Guardiola but the manager won’t be too concerned because he now has Alvarez. Gundogan was the one who would generally play in that role when De Bruyne was absent but this season, it’s Alvarez who’s doing this job.

Also, there are rumours that the Saudi League is trying to bring Kevin De Bruyne on board and if the Belgian is interested in a move away from the Premier League then this is the perfect time for the MCFC boss to test his tactics without his premier playmaker. If Man City can function in their usual top levels without one of their most important players then Pep will have no qualms in cashing in on the midfielder at the end of this season.
