Manchester City have successfully defeated the Premier League trophy this season after beating Brighton 4-1 away from home on Sunday.

Anything other than a win would have been a catastrophe for Pep Guardiola’s men given that Liverpool had won their respective game against Wolves at Anfield.

Liverpool and Man City had been neck-to-neck in the title race for the past couple of months and in the end, it was just a single point which decided the fate of the EPL trophy.

And speaking after the curtain call, Man City man Vincent Kompany has claimed that it was really harsh on Liverpool to lose the Premier League trophy on the final day of the season.

“Back to back… I think it was the hardest and most satisfying Premier League ever,” Kompany said.

“Liverpool were exceptional this year – I don’t mean to rub it in they did not deserve to lose it today.

“We’ve played against such a good team. We won at home at the Etihad and until now we’ve managed to stay ahead.

“Even though the pitch was slow I thought we were magnificent,” Kompany emphasised.

”It’s a combination – the players, the staff, we have such a desire to overachieve and because we have such a good team overachieving is difficult.

“We’re looking forward to the FA Cup now. We’re thinking about the next game on Saturday. We all chipped in this season. You talk about the goal – I’m thinking about how many clean sheets we achieved.

“We conceded a set piece today because we are probably the smallest team in the league but I’m so proud. We had to do the work defensively.”

Next up Man City will take on Watford in the final of the FA Cup while Liverpool travel to Madrid next month to face Tottenham in the Champions League final.
