Liverpool overcame the Chelsea test this weekend as they beat Frank Lampard’s side 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Reds took a 2-0 lead in the first half, courtesy of goals from Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold. And despite a late strike from N’Golo Kante, the Blues failed to pick up any points from this game.

With this win, Liverpool have now opened up a five-point lead in the title race as Man City sit on the second spot with 18 points.

And most people believe Jurgen Klopp’s men have made a fine start to their new campaign and this season they will be able to lift the Premier League trophy.

But speaking after the game, Jose Mourinho has fired a warning to Liverpool saying that Man City are by no means out of the title race.

“Five points lead to Man City, I don’t think it is significant,” Mourinho told Sky Sports, as quoted by the Express.

“Liverpool obviously they are going to lose a match like City lost to Norwich. They will lose a match.

“They are going to drop a couple of points here and there and City are capable of having a run like Liverpool is having now. I think this five points gap is not so significant.

“But we were speaking before the game, it is better to go in the top of the league, it’s better to look back and see my biggest rival.

“City today, it’s one of these matches, where they think, Stamford Bridge, even a draw is good for them, they go from five to three.

“In the end, it is a big victory for Liverpool.”

Verdict:

Liverpool lost only a single game in the Premier League last season but still, Man City were able to beat them to the title courtesy of a single point.

And most pundits believe, Klopp’s men will not be able to maintain that same level of intensity.

Yes, they have won their first six matches in the league so far but they are more or less certain to drop points when the game start coming thick and fast.

And the kind of form that Man City are, Pep Guardiola’s men would need only a handful of chances to catch with Liverpool.
