Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League next month and Alan Shearer feels that the Reds have a lot riding on this match.

Liverpool have been in excellent form this season but as of now, they have nothing to show for their efforts.

Jurgen Klopp’s men lost just one game in the Premier League this whole season but somehow Manchester City still beat them to the title.

And Alan Shearer feels that if Spurs can repeat the same thing then it will be a big blow for the confidence of the whole Liverpool squad.

“If they still end this campaign without any silverware, you have to fear what it will do to their confidence and mentality,” he told The Sun(as reported).

“It would be a long, hard summer for Liverpool.

“However, boss Jurgen Klopp would probably try and dress it up.

“Because it is difficult to know how they can actually play any better. And it is not as if City are going away.

“Klopp needs a trophy to show for all the brilliant work he has done at Anfield.

“But he has lost his last six finals — three with Liverpool and three with Borussia Dortmund. If it was just one or two, then it would not make a difference.

“But six… Klopp will be thinking about that on his way to Madrid.”

Spurs have failed to sign a single player during the past two transfer windows but still, they find themselves on level ground with Liverpool.

And if somehow, Pochettino’s men can cause an upset next month at the Metropolitano then without a doubt, the Liverpool players and fans will be in for a fair bit of banter.
