Sadio Mane to return to the EPL
Sadio Mane playing for Liverpool

Liverpool have suffered their first loss of the 21/22 Premier League season as West Ham United have beaten them 3-2.

The Reds did go into this match as the favourites but everyone knew that Moyes’ boys would give the away side a run for their money. And this is exactly what happened as the Hammers pulled out a performance from the top drawer.

The loss means Liverpool have now slid to the fourth spot on the table and after the international break then have a string of testing encounters so things could get worse.

Jurgen Klopp will not hit the panic button just yet but it’s clear that the Anfield outfit are leaking goals this season(both domestically as well as in Europe), despite having the likes of Van Dijk and Joel Matip fully fit.

Liverpool player ratings:

Alisson Becker: 4.5/10

The keeper was the culprit in the first few minutes as his faint touch helped the ball into the back of the net, thereby handing West Ham United a lead.

Liverpool shots on target vs West Ham

Van Dijk: 7/10

Liverpool have been leaking goals despite Van Dijk being in defence but the defender was individually brilliant, winning four duels and making two key interceptions. The Dutch international did not lose a single duel on Sunday

Joel Matip: 6.5/10

Matip was selected ahead of Konate but this decision clearly did not work out for Jurgen Klopp as the 30-year-old lost three duels during the match.

Robertson: 6.5/10

The left-back did not have much to do in defence since the Hammers were mostly playing through the middle. And in attack, the Scottish international looked out of ideas throughout the game.

Alexander-Arnold: 8/10

The right-back was one of the rare shining stars for Liverpool on Sunday as he netted one and assisted one goal at the London Stadium.

Oxlade-Chamberlain: 6.6/10

With the likes of Naby Keita, Cutis Jones and James Milner out injured Oxlade-Chamberlain was used in midfield. But he did not do his selection justice as he had a passing accuracy of only 78%.

Fabinho: 7/10

The defensive midfielder returned to the starting lineup after a long injury spell and maybe this is why he was a bit rusty. The 28-year-old lost as many as six duels and made only one clearance.

Henderson: 8/10

The captain led by example as he was the orchestrator in midfield. Hendo had 104 touches of the ball and made three key passes.

Sadio Mane: 6.5/10

The winger had a glorious chance to level things up in the dying minutes but he somehow managed to head the ball wide. All the other good things he did during the match become inconsequential after this miss.

Jota: 6.2/10

The forward had a muted outing as he did not do anything noteworthy until he was replaced by Divock Origi in the 76th minute.

Mo Salah: 7.2/10

The Egyptian chipped in with an assist and he also made some fine runs into the box after Liverpool went down 3-1, only to be crowded out by the West Ham defenders.

Liverpool substitutes:

Thiago: 6/10

The midfielder replaced Oxlade-Chamberlain during the match but he did nothing worth mentioning.

Divock Origi: 7.5/10

The sub helped Liverpool claw down the difference with his goal in the 83rd minute and he also had a header saved during the dying minutes of the match.
