Liverpool dropped two crucial points in the Premier League during the weekend, being held to a 2-2 draw by Spurs. And next up, they take on yet another strong side in the form of Leicester City.

Liverpool will face Leicester City in the EFL Cup and Jurgen Klopp’s men will be looking to set the record straight after falling three points behind league leaders Manchester City.

The Reds did not get the rub of the green vs Spurs and things are not likely to get any easier in midweek since Jurgen Klopp will be without several key first-team players – partly due to COVID and partly due to injuries.

The German would love to rotate his players and rest some of them but with so many absentees, Klopp will not have the luxury to make 11 rotations. But thankfully, Leicester City have major selection concerns of their own as Rodgers could be without as many as 11 first-team players. Ideally, Leicester City should be a tough competition for Liverpool but given how many players they are missing, Klopp’s side might be able to nick this one.

Liverpool team news vs Leicester City:

Van Dijk is out with COVID while Roberston’s red card vs Spurs will make him unavailable for selection. Nat Phillips too is absent due to a head injury so Joel Matip will have to play in central defence just days after featuring 90 minutes vs Spurs.

Konate though will be rested as Joe Gomez comes into the side while Tsimikas is going to replace Andy Roberston on the right-hand side.

Fabinho is another COVID hit player and Thiago is a COVID suspect which means both of them will miss out in midweek. Curtis Jones is an injury absentee and even Jordan Henderson is expected to miss out.

This means Jurgen Klopp will either have to use Tyler Morton in central midfielder or hand the 35-year-old James Milner another start. Naby Keita will also keep his place while Oxlade-Chamberlain is going to come into the side.

Divock Origi is yet to return to training which means Roberto Firmino will lead the line up-front but both Salah and Sadio Mane will be rested vs Leicester. Minamino will operate on one of the wings while 17-year-old Kaide Gordon will push for a start.

Liverpool predicted line up vs Leicester City:

Possible Starting XI: Kelleher; Tsimikas, Gomez, Matip, Williams; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita, Milner; Minamino, Firmino, Kaide Gordon.
