When Arsenal brought in Unai Emery during the summer, the Spaniard’s main aim was to bring back Champions League football to the Emirates.

And in a bid to do that the former Sevilla boss made a handful of signings during the summer transfer window.

Then the season started after an initial hiccup, the Gunners were able to steady the ship and finishing in the top four of the Premier League looked a rather easy job.

But ever since Man United have picked up form, the whole scenario has changed for Arsenal.

The Gunners have lost considerable ground to the race of the top-four and right now they find themselves in the sixth spot – three points behind Chelsea.

And with each passing day, it looks like Arsenal might not be able to compete in the Champions League next season.

But according to Lucas Torreira, the London outfit needs to fend off the Man United competition as they deserve to play in the top tier of European football.

‘Just a few weeks ago, (Manchester) United were obviously behind us but it’s happened and it’s something we have to deal with,’ Lucas Torreira told Sky Sports News(as reported).

‘We obviously don’t want that form to happen again.

‘As players, you always need to be fighting for an objective when you walk out onto the pitch and for us, that means qualifying for the Champions League.

‘We know it’s not going to be easy, that’s for sure because we are up against some great teams such as Chelsea and Manchester United but we need to try and stand firm as a team and as a group and battle in every game.

‘The squad is focused on qualifying for the Champions League because a big club like Arsenal deserves to be playing in that competition.’
