According to a report by the Daily Mail, Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has sustained a major injury which could keep him out for the rest of the season.

Shaw was taken off shortly before the break during the victory at Luton Town and the diagnosis is not looking bright because not only the 2023/24 season, but the left-back is also at risk of missing Euro 2024.

The forward’s time at Manchester United has been riddled with injuries because despite being at the club for 10 years, the full-back has played in only 275 games. This season, he’s played just 965 minutes across 12 Premier League games and if the Daily Mail’s report is correct then his season is over.

In the Premier League this campaign, the 28-year-old has made 0.9 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per 90 minutes but offensively, he has neither scored nor assisted any goals.

Since joining United from Southampton back in 2014, Luke Shaw has missed a staggering 214 games for club and country.

Who is going to replace Luke Shaw for the remainder of the season?

The immediate and obvious replacement for Luke Shaw will be Tyrell Malacia but he has been out of action for the whole season due to a knee problem.

The left-back is close to making a comeback but it will be a major risk throwing him into the deep end of the pool immediately. The last time he played for Man United was on the final day of the 2022/23 campaign.

Shaw missed the first half of this season due to a muscle problem during which Erik ten Hag had used multiple players at left-back. Dalot and Amrabat have played in that role and recently, Victor Lindelof has filled in for Luke Shaw.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka injured his thigh right before the Villa game and the full-back will be back sometime in March. Till then the Man United manager has no other option but to use Diogo Dalot at right-back and Lindelof on the left.

Lindelof isn’t the most convincing when playing out of position and the Man United manager has every reason to be worried because they take on Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea from now and between the first week of April.

In the absence of Luke Shaw, not even Malacia would have been a great fit at left-back against these big boys, let alone Victor Lindelof.
