Premier League side Liverpool are eyeing a move for PSV’s winger Johan Bakayoko but according to Voetbalkrant(h/t Sports Mole), Man City are also interested in him.
Bakayoko is a full-time Belgium international and he made his first-team debut for PSV Eindhoven back in 2022. So far he’s played in 70 games for the Dutch side and this campaign, he’s already had 12 goal contributions in 20 league games.
Johan Bakayoko was one of the top performers for the U21 side and he’s brought that form into the senior side as well. The 20-year-old is very strong at holding onto the ball and also likes to dribble with the ball and take full-back head-on.
He’s contracted with the club until 2026 but PSV’s sporting director has admitted that the winger will leave the club at the end of this season.
Ernie Stewart has confirmed: “I don’t think Bakayoko will play for PSV next season. It remains incredible what Johan does for someone his age.”
Brentford attempted to sign the winger last summer for a club-record fee, but he rejected the move. However, with Liverpool and Man City showing keen interest in acquiring his services, a transfer to England appears much more likely.
He’s not going to sign a new deal but because he has a market value of €40 million, PSV will demand a bumper transfer fee for the 20-year-old.
Man City already have players like Silva and Foden who can play out on the right-hand side but Pep is always looking to strengthen his squad. However, Guardiola’s need for reinforcements will be a big issue for Liverpool who want to bring in a top-class player to replace Mo Salah.
Salah’s probable move to the Saudi Pro League has already put Liverpool on their toes and Johan Bakayoko happens to be just one name on a long wishlist. Liverpool have had a major pull in the transfer market but that aura is going to diminish now that Jurgen Klopp is set to leave the club and this could have a major impact in signing their top priority signings during the summer window.
