Man United take on Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Football League Cup and Solskjaer will surely be a man under pressure.
Manchester United lost their previous league encounter against Arsenal 2-0 and then went on to draw their FA Cup game against Wolves 0-0, a match where they failed to register even a single shot on goal.
And going into this match, not only are the Red Devils short on confidence but the manager also has to deal with a series of injuries to some of his star players.
Man United team news vs Man City:
The first and perhaps the biggest injury concern will be with Harry Maguire who seemed to have picked up a knock during the draw vs Wolves.
The defender played the full match at Molineux but after the match, the manager had hinted that he could very well miss the derby.
“I don’t know,” the boss said when asked by BT Sport via the club’s official website.
“We were close to taking him off at half-time, but he battled through. Let’s see how he recovers. We hope so.
“We were not sure if he should continue in the second half, but he was adamant he was going to be OK. He struggled a little bit but let’s see how he’ll recover. It’s not many days, it’s Sunday, Monday and then we go again Tuesday.”
If Harry Maguire is not available then it will be Phil Jones who will play in central defence alongside Lindelof since the likes of Tuanzebe and Rojo are out with injuries.
Paul Pogba has had an operation and the manager has confirmed that he will be out for around four weeks while Scott McTominay also remains a long-term absentee.
This means that Fred will once again be partnered by Nemanja Matic in central midfield.
Jesse Lingard once again had a poor outing against the Gunners and now maybe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen enough to drop him for good.
If Lingard does not get one more chance then it should be Andreas Periera who will play in that No 10 role for Man United at Old Trafford.
Anthony Martial was unavailable with illness for the FA Cup game but the Frenchman should be fit for selection on Tuesday for the EFL Cup semi-finals.
