According to a report in Football Transfers, Premier League side Man United are interested in signing Lille striker Jonathan David.

Anthony Martial finally looks set to leave Manchester United as Fenerbahce has already made an offer to sign the French forward and there are reports that Erik ten Hag is willing to cash in on him ASAP.

Once Martial leaves, Ten Hag will need a replacement which is why United are interested in David, who’s netted five goals in 14 league starts this season. Jonathan David joined Lille in 2020 and in 160 appearances, the 23-year-old has scored 68 goals.

The Canadian international has 18 months remaining in his Lille contract and as per reports, the French side will agree to sell him this month if they receive around £45 million. While Lille are reluctant to go during the middle of the campaign, if the money is good enough they won’t be able to resist.

Rasmus Hojlund has found it really hard to score goals since arriving at Man United which is why ETH wants to bring in someone who can take the burden off the youngster’s shoulders during the second half of the season.

However, this one will not be a straightforward signing for Man United because Aston Villa are also interested in the forward and at Villa Park, the 23-year-old will have the chance to become the main striker. Villa have become a force to reckon with under Unai Emery and there’s a big chance they will be able to secure European football for next season – a great lure for Jonathan David.

Man United spent heavily on Hojlund in the summer and despite his poor form, Ten Hag still hasn’t lost confidence in the forward so if Jonathan David agrees to join the Red Devils then he will have to be the backup option.

A player who’s played 1241 minutes of league football this season will want guaranteed game time and at Man United, starts will be limited because they have been knocked out of Europe and also the EFL Cup.

Once Anthony Martial leaves, Ten Hag will have to bring in a new forward and David is ready to be the understudy to Rasmus Hojlund, he can be the ideal signing.
